Prime Minister Andy Burnham is reportedly exploring a bid for Britain to host a future men’s World Cup, with talks already taking place with the country’s football bodies about how a campaign could work.⁠

The next available tournament is in 2038, although FIFA’s current rotation rules could make a European bid difficult because Spain and Portugal are among the 2030 hosts. That means 2042 could prove a more realistic target unless FIFA makes an exception.⁠

The idea is reportedly part of a wider push to bring some of the world's biggest sporting events to Britain, alongside plans being explored for an Olympic and Paralympic Games in the North of England during the 2040s.⁠

Nothing has been formally submitted yet and FIFA hasn't even opened the bidding process for 2038, so there's a very long way to go.⁠
