Every August, Raleigh wraps itself in a familiar sense of optimism. In Dave Doeren’s 14th season as head coach, the narrative around packfootball returns to its favorite buzzword: stability.

We’re told to celebrate consistency, but under Doeren, mediocrity has become the cap. 

Take away the easy non-conference wins, and the reality is undeniable.

Overly conservative play-calling, game-management mistakes, and a passive approach routinely turn high-stakes opportunities into familiar disappointment.

Anonymous peers in the ACC have pointed out in national evaluations that NC State frequently gets outcoached, even when holding the talent advantage. 

The most dangerous thing NC State Athletics can do right now is settle. The case for keeping Doeren stems from a place of fear. But leading with fear is a road map to permanent irrelevance.
