## Caption

An elephant's feet have some pretty incredible anatomy hidden beneath them. A thick, cushion-like pad of connective and fatty tissue helps absorb shock and distribute their weight as they move. This specialized structure allows elephants to support their massive bodies while walking across a variety of surfaces and terrain.

Elephants also walk on the tips of their toes, with the large foot pad providing much of the support underneath. Our animal care teams regularly monitor our elephants' feet and nails as an important part of their routine care.
