March 12, 2023 Top-seeded Alabama went wire to wire against second-seeded Texas A&M, cruising to an 82- 63 win to capture the program's second SEC Tournament championship in three seasons and sweep both the regular season and tournament titles for the second time under head coach Nate Oats. Alabama set the tone from the opening possession. Mark Sears opened the game with a three-pointer, and the Crimson Tide never trailed, making four of their first six three-point attempts. Alabama built a lead as large as 16 points late in the first half and carried a 34-to-23 advantage into the break, with Texas A&M struggling badly from the floor throughout, eventually shooting a season-low 29.7 percent for the game. The Aggies could never find enough offense to threaten a real comeback. Texas A&M never got closer than nine points in the second half, and Alabama's defense, which ranked third nationally in defensive efficiency, held Texas A&M's star guard Wade Taylor IV to just 13 points on an inefficient shooting day. Brandon Miller led all scorers with 23 points, adding 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals, and was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Miller and Jahvon Quinerly combined for 45 of Alabama's 82 points, with Quinerly scoring 22 points, including 13 in the first half, while also drawing the defensive assignment on Taylor. The win pushed Alabama to 29 and 5 on the season and marked the program's eighth SEC Tournament championship and 17th SEC title overall. Coach Oats called it a proud moment for a group that had set clear goals at the start of the year, saying they wanted both the regular season and tournament titles and got exactly that. The win also came in Miller's hometown of Nashville, adding a personal touch for the freshman star, who said having his family just five minutes away to watch made the moment even more meaningful.
