Kent State jumped out to an early lead against Kentucky but couldn't hold it, as the Wildcats rallied to win 5-2 in a match delayed by weather from Sunday into a late Monday morning kickoff.

Kent State struck first, with junior Jules Donlinski scoring her first goal of the season in the seventh minute off a set piece that ran through freshman Clara Monck and junior Allison Collins before finding Donlinski open in front of goal. The Flashes held that lead for 22 minutes before Kentucky equalized in the 29th minute, making it 1-1, a score that held through the rest of the first half.

Kentucky took over from there, scoring four goals in a span of just 31 minutes late in the second half to blow the game open. Kent State did not go away quietly, adding a goal of its own in the 68th minute to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Wildcats had already built too much of a cushion and closed out the 5-2 win. Kentucky dominated the shot chart throughout, firing 25 shots with 13 on target and forcing 12 corner kicks, while Kent State managed just two shots and one corner kick the entire match, scoring on both of its shot attempts. Kent State goalkeeper Emma Klein made eight saves in the loss.

The result improved Kentucky to 2-0 to open the season, building on a 6-0 win over Detroit Mercy the week before, while Kent State fell to 1-1 after opening the year with a 3-0 win over Cleveland State. Kentucky continues its home slate before hitting the road, while Kent State heads to Dayton for its first true road match of the season.
