Fifth-ranked Vanderbilt closed out its opening week of the season with a lopsided 4- 0 win over ETSU on Senior Night, though the game hung in the balance for much of the night despite the eventual scoreline.

Vanderbilt finally broke through when Olivia Stafford found the net with a tidy finish in the 26th minute, but the Commodores could not add to the lead until Melania Fullerton found the top left corner to double the advantage, fittingly on her own Senior Night. The floodgates opened from there. Less than two minutes after Fullerton's goal, fellow senior Sydney Watts punched home a cross from freshman Hailey Perkins, who picked up the first assist of her college career in her debut. The goal was also a milestone for Watts, moving her into seventh on Vanderbilt's all-time scoring list with her 27th career goal.

Despite the eventual 4-0 final, head coach Darren Ambrose was not entirely pleased with the performance, calling it sluggish, lethargic, and choreographed in his postgame remarks, even as he said he was proud of and happy with the win. Vanderbilt generally controlled the flow of the match but was unable to truly dominate throughout.

The win improved Vanderbilt to 2-0 to open the season, coming off Ambrose's milestone 4-3 win over SMU that made him the winningest coach in program history. It was just the third-ever meeting between Vanderbilt and ETSU, and the first since 2022. ETSU, which returns 80 percent of its goal-scoring production from a team that went undefeated at home in 2025, heads back to Tennessee to host West Georgia next, while Vanderbilt stays home to host Memphis.
