Michelle Lenard's Baylor Bears made a statement to open their 2026 campaign, exploding for three second-half goals to upset 10th-ranked Arkansas 4- 1 in a season opener that head coach Colby Hale bluntly called a deserving loss for his Razorbacks.

Baylor applied pressure early and controlled possession for much of the night, earning the first breakthrough in the 16th minute when Presley Marvil was called for a foul inside the box. Forward Lauren Omholt calmly converted the penalty kick, tucking her shot inside the right post to give the Bears an early 1 to 0 lead. The two sides traded chances the rest of the half, with Baylor holding a slim 4-to-3 edge in shots at the break.

The floodgates opened after halftime. Callie Conrad struck first in the 56th minute, finishing into the bottom left corner to make it 2 to 0. Olivia Hess followed just eight minutes later, firing into the top right corner, and Noelle Sather capped the surge two minutes after that with a shot from the top of the box into the top left corner, putting Baylor up 4 to 0 with just over 20 minutes to play. Arkansas avoided the shutout in the 68th minute when Aniyah Nurse Whyte headed home a goal off a corner kick, but it was far too little too late.

Baylor finished with a 15-to-7 edge in shots and forced Arkansas goalkeeper Keegan Smith into six saves. Hale did not mince words afterward, pointing to poor organization in the back as the culprit, saying his defense simply did not shift together as a unit. The loss marked the first time Arkansas had conceded four goals at home since a 2023 NCAA Tournament defeat, and snapped what had been high expectations for a Razorbacks team picked to finish second in the SEC preseason poll after winning last year's SEC regular season title. Arkansas looks to regroup on the road against Loyola Maryland, while Baylor returns home to host Texas A&M.
