Ole Miss opened the Todd Shulenberger era with a 1-0 win over Murray State, giving the first-year head coach his first victory in Oxford and controlling the match from start to finish.

The Rebels dominated the run of play throughout, outshooting the Racers by a lopsided 22-to-4 margin and holding a commanding 10-to-1 advantage in corner kicks. Ole Miss kept Murray State without a single shot attempt through the entire first half while recording the game's first 11 shots. Sarah Granno had one of the Rebels' best early looks, putting a shot on frame in the 17th minute that was ultimately deflected away.

The breakthrough came in the second half from an unlikely source. Katie Ramsden entered the match in the 61st minute and needed only two minutes to make her presence felt, finishing off a pass from Granno in the 63rd minute for her first goal of the season and the only score of the match. Goalkeeper Taylor Prigge played all 90 minutes in net, making one save to preserve the shutout.

The win marked the debut for Shulenberger, who arrived at Ole Miss after 11 seasons at Washington State, where he had become the winningest coach in program history. Twelve newcomers made their Ole Miss debut in the match. For Murray State, it was the first regular-season game under new head coach Ben Madsen, and it extended Ole Miss's perfect all-time series record against the Racers to 4- 0. Ole Miss travels to Louisiana next.
