Auburn's James Armstrong got a heck of a fight from his Tigers in the season opener, as Auburn played 25th-ranked Clemson to a scoreless draw in front of more than 1,000 fans at the Auburn Soccer Complex, a hard-fought result made even more impressive given the injuries Auburn had to overcome along the way.

Auburn set the tone early, dictating rhythm and tempo for much of the first half against a ranked Clemson side. But the Tigers had to battle adversity almost immediately, losing Tahirah Turnage Morales just five minutes in, then also losing key contributor Lily Devereaux, whom Armstrong called the team's glue. Despite the shuffled lineup, Auburn kept its foot on the gas. The best chance of the night came in the eighth minute, when Kennedy Husbands's cross was headed on goal by Dylan Driver and nearly found the back of the net.

Auburn finished the match with eight shots, four on target, outshooting Clemson's six attempts, only two of which were on frame. Clemson controlled possession for roughly 51 minutes of the match and held a 6-to-4 edge in corner kicks, with junior Anna Castenfelt leading the Tigers with four shot attempts of her own. Auburn goalkeeper Ayana Yapo came up big late, coming up with back-to-back saves in the 70th and 71st minutes to preserve the shutout and secure the tie.

Armstrong praised his team's resilience afterward, saying the group bent at times but never broke, staying threatening on the counterattack throughout. With the result, Clemson extended its all-time series edge over Auburn to 8 wins, 2 losses and 2 ties, and both programs opened the season at 0 and 0 and 1. Auburn stayed home to host Jacksonville State next.
