December 4, 2021 Bryce Young authored one of the most electric individual performances in SEC Championship Game history, throwing for 421 yards and three touchdowns while adding 40 rushing yards and a rushing score as third-ranked Alabama stunned top-ranked and previously undefeated Georgia 41 to 24, a result that flipped the script on a season Georgia had dominated to that point. The game turned into a rout almost as soon as it began. Young set an SEC Championship Game record for first-half passing yards with 286, igniting the explosion with a 67-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, the longest play Georgia had allowed all season. He followed with a 13-yard touchdown pass to John Metchie, set up a Will Reichard field goal, and then capped the quarter himself with a 13-yard touchdown run with just 26 seconds left in the half. The eruption made Alabama the only team all season to score more than two touchdowns against Georgia, a defense that had allowed only 29 total points across all 12 regular-season games. Alabama kept the pressure on to start the second half, as Williams hauled in another long touchdown pass, this one covering 55 yards. Nick Saban leaned into the underdog storyline afterward, telling reporters his team had been fed a steady diet of doubt heading into the week, joking that this particular batch of rat poison tasted pretty good.
