2021 SEC Championship Game: Alabama 41, Georgia 24
Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA.
December 4, 2021

Nick Saban's third-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide stunned top-ranked Georgia, rolling to a 41-to-24 victory to capture the program's 29th SEC title. The Bulldogs entered undefeated with the nation's top-rated defense, allowing fewer than seven points a game, but Bryce Young and the Alabama offense hung more points on Georgia than any opponent all season.

Georgia controlled the early going, taking a 3-to-0 lead on a Jack Podlesny field goal before Stetson Bennett found tight end Darnell Washington for a 5-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to make it 10-to-0. Alabama answered 44 seconds later when Young uncorked a 67-yard touchdown strike to Jameson Williams, the longest play Georgia had allowed all season, and the floodgates opened from there. Young hit John Metchie III for a 13-yard score to give Alabama its first lead, and Will Reichard tacked on a field goal to make it 17-to-10. Georgia tied it on a 32-yard Bennett touchdown pass to Ladd McConkey, but Young answered again, scrambling in from 11 yards out with 26 seconds left to send Alabama to the locker room up 24-to-17 after an SEC Championship Game-record 24-point second quarter. The half came at a cost, as Metchie suffered a season-ending knee injury just before the break.

Williams picked up right where he left off to open the third quarter, hauling in a 55-yard touchdown from Young to push the lead to 31-17, and Alabama's defense slammed the door from there. The Crimson Tide turned Georgia away on consecutive red zone trips, then safety Jordan Battle jumped a Bennett pass and returned it 42 yards for a pick-six, the first in the SEC title game since 2016, to make it 38-to-17. Georgia got one back on an 18-yard Bennett screen pass to freshman tight end Brock Bowers, but Reichard's 41-yard field goal with 1:59 remaining closed out the 41-24 final.

Young was named the game's MVP after setting SEC Championship Game records with 421 passing yards and 461 yards of total offense, throwing three touchdowns and running for another while completing 26 of 44 passes without an interception. Williams finished with seven catches for 184 yards and two scores, while Alabama's defense held every Georgia running back under 40 yards rushing and forced two interceptions. Saban quipped afterward that the "rat poison" from doubters that week had been "yummy," while Kirby Smart credited Young's ability to escape pressure and make plays downfield. Both teams advanced to the College Football Playoff, where the rivals would meet again in the national championship game a month later in Indianapolis.
