March 8, 2026 Vic Schaefer's Texas Longhorns pulled off a stunner in the SEC Tournament final, jumping on top-seeded and defending champion South Carolina early and never letting go, winning 78- 61 to claim the program's first SEC title since joining the conference in 2024 and snapping South Carolina's run of three straight tournament titles. The Longhorns wasted no time making their intentions clear, scoring the game's first 14 points and never looking back, a burst that included jumping out to a 27 to 12 lead in the first quarter against a South Carolina team that had won 29 of 31 games and captured the last three SEC tournament championships. Texas carried that early cushion through a dominant three quarters before holding on late to close out the win. Madison Booker led the way for Texas, scoring a game-high 18 points to go with four rebounds and two assists, earning tournament MVP honors. She got plenty of scoring help too, with Justice Carlton adding 15 points and Jordan Lee chipping in 12 as three different Longhorns reached double figures. Rori Harmon and Carlton joined Booker on the All-Tournament team. The win capped a dominant tournament run for Texas, which finished the season 31 and 3, and was made even sweeter by the setting, played in Greenville less than 90 minutes from the South Carolina campus in what amounted to a near home game for the Gamecocks.
