⛵ He built a solar-powered yacht for about $20,000 — then took it across Europe to prove it could go the distance.

Finnish engineer Lukas Sjöman spent roughly 200 days building Helios 11, a DIY electric yacht made from marine plywood and fiberglass.

Instead of relying on gasoline or diesel, the boat uses rooftop solar panels, batteries, and a 6 kW electric motor.
With good sunlight, it can cruise at around 7 knots and reportedly cover up to 270 kilometers in a day. Even when conditions aren't ideal, it can still manage around 70 kilometers.

But the impressive part came after the build.
Sjöman took Helios 11 on a journey of more than 3,000 nautical miles — roughly 5,700 kilometers — from Finland to Ibiza, Spain.

And the entire trip was completed without burning fuel.
The batteries were charged by the sun, while the electric motor kept the yacht moving.
