About 9,000 customers lost power in northwest Indiana after an electrical pole fire and downed power lines in Schererville.

The outages also caused traffic lights to go dark along U.S. 30 and U.S. 41, according to Schererville officials. Police are warning drivers of significant traffic congestion near U.S. 41 and Main Street.

The outage comes as the region continues to recover from severe storm damage last week.
