I’m 50, and I’ve spent 20+ years specialising in women’s hormones. Every bloated woman who comes to me asks the same thing. Is it my food, is it my hormones, or is this just what happens now.

It’s both. Nobody tells you that, because it’s harder to sell than a single villain.

1. Too much protein at once. You can digest it perfectly well and still bloat, because the volume itself is the problem. Nobody warned you the fix could become the cause.

2. Not enough stomach acid or enzymes to break it down. That’s the heartburn. And the burping. And the bloating that arrives 40 minutes after a meal you did nothing wrong with. True for some women. Not because of your birthday.

3. A clean meal that’s enormously dense all at once. This is the one I see most and nobody catches it. Steak, avocado, olive oil, nuts, sweet potato. Every ingredient is fine. Put them all on one plate at 7pm and your digestion slows right down.

4. Eating right up until bed. I keep three hours clear before I sleep. Your body needs that overnight break and it can’t take one while it’s still working.

5. Dairy sitting in the protein slot. I use it like a condiment. I’m more sensitive in the second half of my cycle, when progesterone is high, because progesterone slows motility. Same if you’re on progesterone HRT. So you’re bloated two weeks a month, fine the other two, and think you’re losing your mind.

What I do instead: 25 to 35 grams of fibre a day, spread across meals. Steps twice a day. And I stopped assuming I ate healthy and started tracking, because clean and appropriate are not the same thing.

So is it food, perimenopause, or age. It’s the food, the hormonal shift, and the root causes underneath both. Fix them in an order or you’ll chase one symptom at a time for years.

That order is what I’m teaching free on August 25.

Comment ORDER and I’ll send the link. Follow me first so it lands in your DMs, not your message requests.

Save this for the next afternoon your jeans won’t do up.

Send this to the friend who eats cleaner than anyone you know and is bloated constantly.

Follow for advice from a woman who’s “in it”!
