Before Disturbing tha Peace, before the world knew the name Shawnna, there was a young Chicago rapper named Rashawnna Guy.

Born and raised in Chicago and the daughter of blues Icon, Buddy Guy, Shawnna grew up surrounded by music, but hip hop became her special. She started writing rhymes as a teenager and quickly developed a reputation for her chicago flavor, rapid fire, and unapologetic delivery, (No FUX given) 🖕🏾

Her first major break came in the 90s when she teamed up with fellow Chicago MC Lateefa “Teefa” Harland. The two formed Infamous Syndicate, one of the most notable female rap duos to emerge from Chicago.

The story of Infamous Syndicate started at Teefa’s 17th birthday party in 1997, where the two met. Their chemistry translated into music, and after their demos began receiving attention on Chicago radio, the duo signed with Relativity Records. They soon found themselves performing on the Lyricist Lounge Tour, earning recognition as the baddest female group that represented Chicago hip-hop.

In 1999, Infamous Syndicate released their only album, Changing the Game. The project featured production from Chicago heavyweights No I.D. and Kanye West, among others.

FUN FACT: 4 Years before “Though the Wire” Kanye produced some of this album and dropped one of the coldest verses to this day on “What You Do To Me.”

Although Infamous Syndicate’s run was short lived, Shawnna’s story was just getting started.

After the group split, she connected with Ludacris and Disturbing tha Peace, becoming one of the crew’s standout voices. She appeared on Ludacris’ breakout “What’s Your Fantasy” and later on the massive “Stand Up.”

Shawnna went on to release three solo albums, Worth tha Weight in 2004, Block Music in 2006 and Run it Back in 2025, cementing herself as one of the most successful female rappers to come out of Chicago

Thee Baddest shawnnaworldwide
