💥YANKEES WIN 3-1!💥

The Yankees sneak by the O’s in game one behind an excellent team pitching effort and a big game at the plate from Trent Grisham.

Carlos Rodón still seemed to be shaking off some dust, but he certainly limited the damage in his return from the IL. The only run he allowed was a solo shot to Mayo in the 3rd. In the 2nd, he escaped a bases loaded, 1-out jam without allowing a run. Overall he tossed 66 pitches. His line: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. His season ERA his 3.22.

Trent Grisham WAS the offense tonight. As a matter of fact, he has driven in 11 of the Yankees’ last 24 runs dating back to August 9 against the Braves. Tonight, he got the Yanks going with a solo bomb (17) to Eutaw Street in the 3rd. It’s his second career homer to Eutaw Street, so another plaque is in store for him.

In the 7th, Grish stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and 2 outs in a tie game. He rocketed a 2-strike sinker to center to make it a 3-1 Yankee lead.

As a team it was another lackluster offensive performance, which is sadly to be expected at this point. They had just 5 hits and were 1-for-5 with RISP, leaving 6 on base. They quickly blew through their challenges as well, with Ramos and Jones both making bone-headed calls. It cost the Yanks a few times later in the game as well.

Once again, the Yankees relied upon their bullpen to will them to victory. Here’s how they did:

Bednar: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Considering the offensive woes, easy wins really aren’t in the cards for this team. Expect them to continue playing in tight games until they get offensive reinforcements (Belli, G, Judge). Until then, we better hope this pitching staff continues to rock.
