Today is Naga Pancami Vrat, an observance devoted to nagas, powerful serpent beings revered across Hindu and Buddhist traditions. 🐍

Associated with water, rainfall, fertility, and the hidden riches of the earth, nagas are honored as guardians of the natural world.

During Naga Pancami, devotees offer milk, flowers, and prayers to images of serpents and observe vows seeking protection and blessings. In Nepal, images of nagas are traditionally placed above doorways as a sign of reverence and protection.

The flying naga depicted in this sculpture moves through swirling “cloud-foliage,” connecting the figure to monsoon rain and the fertility of crops.
