The climate conversation gets distorted when everyone is treated as if they contribute equally.

They do not.

The top 10% of global earners account for roughly 48% of consumption based carbon emissions.

The bottom 50% account for about 12%.

On a per person basis, the average individual in the top 10% produces roughly 19 times the carbon footprint of someone in the bottom half.

And the concentration gets even steeper at the top.

The top 1% alone account for about 17% of global emissions.

This does not mean geography, industry, energy systems, or policy do not matter. They do.

But economic class is one of the clearest lenses for understanding who is driving disproportionate demand.

The carbon problem is global.

The responsibility is not evenly distributed.
