Leg day doesn’t have to suck.

But if you’re training for football, it shouldn’t be random exercises that make your legs sore.

Squats, trap bar deadlifts, and sled work all have a place because they train different pieces of what you need on the field:

🏋️ Squats help you build strength from low, bent-knee positions.

💥 Trap bar deadlifts help you put force into the ground.

🛷 Sled drags and pulls let you change the load, distance, and direction depending on what you’re training.

Quick note on reps and sets:

💪 If the goal is getting stronger, keep the reps lower, use more weight, and give yourself enough rest to keep the reps clean.

📈 If the goal is building size, use a little less weight and get more quality reps.

⚡ If the goal is power, don’t turn it into conditioning. Stop before the reps get slow and sloppy.

So if you’re building a lower body day for football, don’t just ask, “What makes my legs sore?”

Ask, “Does this help me create force, absorb force, and stay powerful in football positions?”
