TUGBOAT VS TEAM USA 👀 Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson turned heads during the 2026 World Baseball Classic while pitching for Team Canada, especially in his appearance against Team USA. Despite facing a loaded American lineup, Wilkinson delivered two hitless innings and struck out both Cal Raleigh and Bryce Harper. His low-90s fastball and deceptive delivery, which has earned the pitch the nickname “invisiball,” made him extremely difficult to square up. Even though Canada ultimately lost, Wilkinson’s performance against some of baseball’s biggest stars became one of the tournament’s standout moments. Now, Wilkinson is getting his opportunity on the biggest stage. The 23-year-old left-hander has been called up by the San Francisco Giants for his first MLB opportunity after being acquired from Cleveland in the Patrick Bailey trade earlier this season. Wilkinson dominated at Double-A, posting a 1.87 ERA over 43⅓ innings between Akron and Richmond, and continued to show his strikeout ability throughout his minor league career.
