Shoutout to dudes off the podium that were ripping at Unadilla. Garrett Marchbanks bounced right back after a Washougal crash to go 5-4 for fourth, his fifth top-five overall this year. Marchbanks is sixth in the combined 450SMX standings right now.
Two 250 riders have crushed it lately, and they also ride together in California and also battled at Unadilla. Carson Mumford went 3-4 for fourth and Ryder Difrancesco went 5-3 for fifth. DiFrancesco is third in the combined 250SMX standings and Mumford is sixth. Sixth for Mumfy, who is not on a factory bike!
Then you have the visitors: Jed Beaton is Australia’s 450 Motocross Champion and he went 10-9 for seventh in the 450 Class while throwing together a privateer-style effort. He was in a fight for fifth in moto two until a late fade back—they run 25 minute motos in Australia, and it’s winter down there. He’ll get stronger!
In the 250 Class, New Zealand’s Brodie Connelly went 8-5 on his Quad Lock Honda, famously repassing Levi Kitchen on the last lap. Teammate Alex Larwood, Australia’s 250MX champ, went 16-10. Connelly has been at MTF all year but has fought injuries. We just saw what he can really do.
And then there’s the incredible Mark Fineis, who went 21-5 in the 450 Class! Fineis barely rides during the week and spends his time coaching others, and pumping iron. He rode RedBud for fun, crushed it, and got a ride with ISRT Kawasaki. He’s been a revelation in a summer full of surprises.
