## Caption

This play has sparked a lot of debate over how to interpret the rule regarding the baseline. After laying down a bunt, the runner sprinted down the line and dove toward the outer part of the double first base while the first baseman got ready to apply a tag.

The umpire ruled that the runner strayed too far outside his established base path to dodge the tag attempt, resulting in him being called out instead of safe at the bag.

The confusing part is that runners are permitted to use the outside safety base at first, leading many to believe the dive should have been completely legal as long as he maintained a direct effort toward the base.
