Yesterday, Mason Rincon became the hero for Bayonne, New Jersey, in the Little League World Series. With the game tied 1–1 against Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Rincon stepped up in the bottom of the sixth inning and hit a walk-off home run to give his team a dramatic 2–1 victory.

Since Little League games last six innings, Rincon’s home run ended the game instantly. While running around the bases, he appeared to make a “throat slash” gesture toward the opposing team. The celebration quickly became controversial, with some people considering it unsportsmanlike.

The victory was important because it kept Bayonne on the winner’s side of the tournament bracket. They are now one step closer to the championship, although they still need to win more games to reach the final.
