1 year ago, Doja Cat released "Jealous Type.”

Doja Cat kicked off the campaign for her fifth studio album, 'Vie,' with 'Jealous Type,' a glossy pop track steeped in '80s-inspired production. Produced by Jack Antonoff and Y2K, the song marked a return to the sleek, melodic side of Doja's artistry after the more rap-focused direction of 'Scarlet.' Lyrically, she plays up possessiveness and romantic uncertainty, admitting that even with her confidence, jealousy can still get the better of her.

Months before its official release, Doja had already teased the song through a Marc Jacobs campaign and later performed it for the first time at Outside Lands. When the track arrived, Boni Mata's Los Angeles-shot video expanded its retro atmosphere with vintage film, leopard-print styling, a limousine, and multiple versions of Doja interacting with one another. The glamorous, dreamlike presentation reinforced the nostalgic direction she was taking into the 'Vie' era.

'Jealous Type' served as the first taste of 'Vie,' which followed on September 26, 2025. The single's arrival signaled Doja's deliberate return to pop, with the album drawing broadly from '70s and '80s sounds while retaining her rap and R&B instincts. Its release also demonstrated how she could build an entire era around a retro aesthetic without simply recreating the past.
