Want to get started with Hyrox training?

Stop overcomplicating it.

You don’t need to train twice a day.

You don’t need five Hyrox classes a week.

And you definitely don’t need to destroy yourself with a simulation every weekend.

If you’re starting from scratch, focus on three things:

1. Build your aerobic base

Start running consistently.

Two or three runs per week is a great place to begin.

Most of them should be easy.

Hyrox has 8 kilometers of running, so building your engine needs to be a priority from day one.

2. Build enough strength

You need to be strong enough that the sleds, carries, lunges and wall balls don’t completely drain you.

Two full body strength sessions each week can build a great foundation.

3. Learn the Hyrox skills

This is the part I wish more athletes focused on early.

Don’t wait until you’re fit to learn the stations.

Practice them in a controlled environment.

Film yourself.

Slow things down.

Learn the mechanics before adding more speed and fatigue.

You don’t need to train like an advanced Hyrox athlete when you’re a beginner.

Build the engine. Get strong. Master the mechanics.

Then gradually layer in more race specific work as you improve.

That’s how you build a foundation that can keep getting better instead of just getting really good at being tired.
