Hi, I’m Emma! I’m a junior doctor (intern) at Toowoomba Hospital. 👩‍⚕️🏥

As an intern, I rotate through different specialties, so every few months my role changes. So far, I’ve worked in emergency medicine, anaesthetics and rural medicine in Dalby, and I’m currently working in obstetrics and gynaecology. 🤰🏾👶🏾

Every rotation brings new challenges, new skills and a different perspective on patient care, which is one of the things I love most about being a junior doctor.

I studied medicine at the University of Queensland and completed my final two years at the Toowoomba Rural Clinical School. 

Growing up in an agricultural family, and through my own family’s experiences accessing healthcare, I saw how important timely, accessible medical care is for people living outside major cities. Those experiences inspired my passion for rural medicine and continue to motivate me every day. 🚜

I’m hoping to become a Rural Generalist because I love the breadth of medicine, being part of close-knit communities, and working in multidisciplinary teams where everyone knows and supports each other. 🥰

I also enjoy building long-term relationships with patients and seeing the difference continuity of care can make. I especially love the theatre environment, so I’m still deciding whether to pursue advanced training in obstetrics or anaesthetics. 🤔

One of my favourite parts of working at Toowoomba Hospital is collaborating with nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and senior doctors. Everyone brings different skills and perspectives, and it’s a privilege to learn from them while working together to provide the best care possible.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me camping, heading to the beach or spending time with family and friends. 🏕️
