This year’s 20th Platinum Anniversary Noche de Luz was truly special. Serving as President of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, now a 730+ member organization, and Gala Chair for the past five years has been one of the greatest professional honors. While I had doubts about chairing again during my presidency, I knew this milestone deserved it.

Highlights included celebrating my tenure as Gala chair and the diligent work of our Board, recognizing our award recipients, including DHBA Past President Rudy Rodriguez, Board members Kimberly C. and Juan Antonio Solis, past Board member Clarissa Benavides JD AIGP CIPP CIPM FIP CCEP, and longtime supporter Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP, presenting the President’s Award to the Honorable Nicole Muñoz Huschka, who has been instrumental in my path to the DHBA leadership, recognizing Immediate Past President Edward J. Loya, Jr. for his years of DHBA Board service and personal support, and honoring the incredible, Sylvia Mendez, whose legacy and story inspired our sold-out audience.

Together, we raised over $130,000, the second-highest amount in the event’s 20-year history despite current challenges to organizations like ours. These funds directly support the DHBA’s signature initiatives empowering Latina lawyers, judicial externs, and law students. A special thank you to Rudy Rodriguez for his support with our fundraising efforts.

As I said at the Gala, you can’t be all things at the same time. Doing this work while also being a full-time litigator and mom of three under five is less about balance and more about co-existing responsibilities and choosing priorities. None of it would be possible without the ongoing support of my husband and family, including my young children, so it was extra special to have my family and dear longtime friends there to celebrate with me.

A big thank you to my firm Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr & Smith for supporting the Gala and my presidency.

Thank you to our Communications Director Macie Blohowiak, our interns Alondra Torres Arenas and Yarely Zepeda, and Monica Adriano for their dedication to this event and our organization. And to Monica for her key role in having Sylvia as our keynote speaker.

I am also grateful to fellow bar leaders including the Presidents of the Allied Bars Vicki Blanton, Kandace Walter, Chelsea Hilliard, and Thomas McMillian, State Bar of Texas President Santos Vargas, and DHBA Past President Javier Perez for supporting DHBA and my presidency.

It was a truly memorable night and a privilege to help mark 20 years of giving, service, and leadership. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and excited to help carry the DHBA forward into its next chapter.

Congratulations to the DHBA on an unforgettable celebration Edward J. Loya, Jr., Maria Alonso, Fernando Juarez, Juan Antonio Solis, Erica Santamaria, Kimberly C., Ashley Aten, and Elizabeth A. Spencer Berthiaume, CIPP/US.
