Delonte West is a former professional basketball player who built a reputation as a tough, versatile guard during an eight-year NBA career. He played at multiple positions in the backcourt and was known for his ability to defend, handle the ball, create shots and knock down perimeter jumpers.
West was born July 26, 1983, in Washington, D.C., and became a standout basketball player at St. Joseph’s University. During the 2003-04 college season, he formed an electric backcourt with Jameer Nelson, helping lead St. Joseph’s to a 27-0 regular-season record and a No. 1 national ranking. West was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.

The Boston Celtics selected West with the 24th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He spent his first several NBA seasons in Boston, developing into a reliable two-way guard.
West later played for the Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks. One of the most notable stretches of his career came with Cleveland, where he played alongside LeBron James during the late 2000s. The Cavaliers became one of the NA’s top teams during that period, and West was an important part of their backcourt.
He finished his NBA career having appeared in 432 regular-season games, averaging approximately 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
