Though it was far from the Klan’s headquarters in Atlanta, white supremacist ideology found a strong foothold in Oregon. From 1915 to 1944, one in 15 Oregonians was a Klan member—the second-highest state per capita, behind Indiana. That represents 50,000 total members across at least 60 chapters in rural and urban communities.⁠
