If my female ancestors could only see me now…! I couldn’t let National Breastfeeding Month go by without acknowledging my forever awe of women. We are so powerful. 🤌

It also feels very fitting to be winding down my own pumping journey during National Breastfeeding Month. Every family’s feeding journey looks different, and I have so many different emotions. For me, exclusive pumping turned into combo feeding pretty fast after my supply tanked during my postpartum hemorrhage and hospitalization. I was so incredibly frustrated by it, but we got through thanks to formula supplementation and a rigorous pumping schedule, and I managed to make it 4 months on this breastfeeding journey (longer than I had planned or hoped!) and every single week was hard-fought. I’m both proud and grateful. And getting to study breastmilk expression and milk lipidomics in microgravity thanks to my own postpartum body was just the cherry on top… now I have a freezer bag of ‘microgravity milk’ with Max’s name on it! 💪✨
