Parts of Oklahoma saw as much as 11 inches of snow over the last three days, with temperatures as low as the single digits and wind chills dipping below zero. Much of the state—and its largest cities—remained shut down, with many roads still dangerously impassable on Sunday.

People were impacted in very different ways. Those experiencing homelessness faced prolonged exposure to extreme cold while seeking temporary shelter in warming centers that were reported to be at capacity. Elsewhere, residents took advantage of the rare conditions, using sleds, pool floats, and other improvised gear to get outdoors.

Public transit operations varied by city. Tulsa’s transit system was closed through the weekend, while Oklahoma City’s system remained largely in operation, including free rides on the downtown streetcar tram.
