August 19, 2026, Batroun, Lebanon: A female pelican named ‘Bajout’ plays with fisherman Hanna Mubarak at the ancient touristic fishermen port of the coastal town of Batroun, north Lebanon. The Pelican was rescued by Mubarak four years ago, when it was found shot by hunters during the migratory season and was unable to fly. Instead of flying away after healing, the pelican decided to make the coastal town its permanent home. It has become the mascot and a major tourist attraction in Batroun.
