Cooperative education, or co-op, is a structured model that allows students to alternate academic coursework with paid, full-time professional experience related to their field of study.

The University of Cincinnati invented cooperative education in 1906, and today UC students can graduate with up to a year and a half of professional experience while building their resumes, professional networks and career-ready skills!

With support from the University of Cincinnati College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies, students get the chance to test what they’re learning, grow through real work and head toward graduation with experience already on their resume.
