It was a privilege to witness the inaugural graduation of eight participants from Las Vegas Municipal Court’s newest specialty program, Community Court.

Over the course of six months to a year, Community Court connects participants with resources aimed at addressing the challenges that can contribute to repeated involvement in the justice system, including: housing assistance, mental health and substance use counseling, job training, and GED preparation.

The program is built around a simple but important principle: accountability and meaningful support can work hand in hand.

As Community Court’s mission states, the goal is to “reduce recidivism, increase stability and strengthen the community through compassion, accountability and meaningful support.”

Congratulations to these first eight graduates on reaching this milestone. Their achievement is a powerful reminder of what can happen when our courts pair accountability with resources that give people a meaningful opportunity to build greater stability and move forward.
