Your next must try in Encinitas is a beer and wine house with a disco ball tree.

Leu Leu sits right on Coast Highway in Leucadia, and it is not trying to be a restaurant in the usual sense. It is a lounge that happens to serve some of the most interesting food in North County.

A few things to know before you go.

It is Claudette Zepeda’s place. Top Chef alum, James Beard nominee, one of the most recognized chefs in San Diego.

No cocktails. It is beer and wine only, and the wine program spotlights female winemakers. They also run their own wine club called Pour Decisions.

The front doors came off an old Egyptian villa. There are disco balls hanging in the trees on the patio, vinyl playing, velvet curtains, and a DJ booth built into the room rather than rolled in on weekends.

Order the Fabergé Egg, which is wagyu tartare wrapped in sushi rice. The desserts are named after books.

Open Wednesday through Sunday, 5 to 10. There is a two seat bar that runs first come first served if you did not plan ahead.

This stretch of 101 has quietly become one of the best reasons to look north of Del Mar, and Leu Leu is the proof.
