## Caption

The roughly 50-acre site that became Cliffhangers at golfbigcedar was originally intended as the practice facility for Payne’s Valley. But after walking the dramatic Ozarks terrain, Johnny Morris and his son John Paul decided the limestone cliffs were simply too spectacular for a range.

Instead, crews blasted into the native rock to create an 18-hole par-3 course carved into the hillside, incorporating massive exposed limestone walls, waterfalls, ponds, caves and cart paths running directly through the rock.

Perhaps the wildest feature comes at No. 3, where the tee sits inside a cave behind a waterfall. During construction, crews repeatedly spotted a mature mountain lion near the cave entrance—earning the hole its name: “Lion’s Den.”

From planned driving range to one of the most visually outrageous golf projects in America.
