Amitabh Bachchan and his male co-stars have played intimate pairings in countless films. Yet because those relationships aren't named or described through a queer framework, they aren't subjected to the same scrutiny.
But once desire is named, categorized and given an identity, it can also become something that society feels entitled to police.
And that's the dilemma:
We want names because names give us identity, recognition and belonging. But those same names can also become the basis for discipline.
