Understanding the present starts with confronting the past. 

For over 30 years, UNESCO's Routes of Enslaved Peoples programme has been connecting researchers, institutions and communities worldwide to break the silence around slavery and the slave trade, and to keep its memory alive. 

Because as racism and discrimination persist, so does the need for knowledge that restores truth, dignity and understanding.
