A few things that make a difference:
🦷Keep your brush at about a 45° angle toward the gumline. 
🦷 Use gentle, small motions instead of scrubbing. 
🦷 Take your time and make sure you reach the front, back, and chewing surfaces of every tooth.

Do it for two minutes with a soft bristled toothbrush using gentle pressure. Your gums (and your dentist) will thank you!
