The two-time defending champions of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association are preparing to hit the pitch next week with what is a great start to one the best schedules in the state.

Fifth-year coach Orville Roberts and CHS Soccer have put together their usual top-flight lineup of outstanding opponents from Western New York and beyond, including a spot in a terrific season-opening event hosted by Clarence High School.

The Crusaders will open their year against two Section VI powers at the Private vs. Public Showcase Cup.

Canisius begins its season against defending Section VI Class AAA champion Lancaster at Clarence at 2 p.m. Tuesday; the Crusaders face defending Section VI Class AA champion Clarence on the Red Devils’ home turf at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. St. Joe’s, finalist in the last two Monsignor Martin title games, will also represent the MMAA in the event.

CHS, which advanced to last year’s New York State Catholic High School Athletic Assocation championship, will also play our Rochester brethren at McQuaid Jesuit and travel to Pennsylvania power Cathedral Prep.

The home opener is one of several additional matchups against Western New York’s best as CHS hosts defending New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A champion East Aurora at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 on Koessler Field at the Stransky Memorial Complex.

Canisius also takes on Amherst and Lew-Port and has major primetime matchups at Lancaster and Lackawanna.

The opener for one of the best leagues in the state is Saturday, Sept. 19 as the Crusaders play at St. Francis. The next game is Canisius’ Monsignor Martin home opener in against St. Joe’s on Monday, Sept. 21. The other rivalry matchup is in Kenmore on Oct. 8.

Students and families interested in the CHS Soccer and the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” by Buffalo Business First – can learn more by reserving a spot for our Open House on Sunday, Oct. 18 or Monday, Oct. 19 via canisiushigh.org/openhouse

This place is special. Let us show you why.
