we lost a legend today.

tim curry, the voice of prince lotor in The Third Dimension, has passed away at 80.

when lotor broke out of prison in 1998, he came back stronger, more dangerous, and with the perfect new voice. tim’s lotor was simultaneously menacing and charming, and it was impossible not to root for him (against your better judgement).

as third dimension fans know, tim also voiced king alfor in the series. we will forever be astounded and impressed by his ability to flawlessly play the galaxy's most dangerous villain and its most beloved king. tim made it look easy.

in his incredible career, he played a vast array of iconic roles such as frank-n-furter, pennywise, hexxus, nigel thornberry, wadsworth, and captain hook (for which he won an emmy).

tim became one of the most recognizable voices in the business. too humble to praise his own talent, he attributed his success to a childhood spent glued to the radio and singing as a boy soprano in church choir. tim would later say that radio was the reason voice acting became so appealing to him, and that he "always tried to make villains amusing, which gives them a bit more edge."

as you know, our prince was in the very best of hands. tim's villains were terrifying, but the man himself was a sweetheart.

everyone who made Voltron happen is proud that a man this kind and thoughtful spent part of his career with us. thank you for everything, tim.

we’d love to hear about your favorite lotor and alfor memory below.
