Allie Sczech isn't waiting for her playing career to end before starting the next one.

The former Nebraska and Baylor volleyball player is beginning her career as a Big Ten Network analyst while continuing to play professionally, bringing together two paths she has spent years pursuing.

Sczech recently called Nebraska's Red-White Scrimmage at Pinnacle Bank Arena, putting her behind the microphone with her former teammates playing just feet away.

“The whole experience was super full circle,” Sczech said.

Sczech expects to call roughly eight Big Ten matches this season, including assignments involving Nebraska, Iowa and Rutgers.

Sczech's broadcasting journey began at Baylor, where she was a two-time All-Big 12 selection while studying corporate communication and journalism.

She interned at a Fox television station in Waco, Texas, learning to edit highlights, conduct interviews and work on camera. She later gained experience with Baylor's student media.

When it came time to use her final season of college eligibility, Sczech wanted a school where she could continue playing at a high level while earning a master's degree in journalism.

That helped lead her to Nebraska.

“The main thing for me was just finding a program for journalism,” Sczech said.

While playing for the Huskers and completing her master's degree, Sczech continued gaining broadcasting experience with the Husker Radio Network.

She then landed a Big Ten Network opportunity and approached it like preparing for a volleyball match, extensively studying the conference and its teams.

“I was on the grind,” Sczech said. “I’m going to know everything about the Big Ten from last year.”

After the internship, Sczech continued pursuing opportunities with BTN. Eventually, she got the call to become an analyst.

Sczech isn't finished competing.

Her playing résumé includes a gold medal with Team USA at the 2023 Pan American Cup and a Big Ten championship at Nebraska. She was also selected 29th overall by the Omaha Supernovas in the 2025 Major League Volleyball draft and played professionally in Puerto Rico.

She will continue her professional career with NorCal in Major League Volleyball.

That gives Sczech a unique perspective in the booth as someone still actively training and competing professionally.

It was evident when she analyzed her former Nebraska teammates following the Red-White Scrimmage.

“The defense was insane,” Sczech said, also praising the Huskers' development and increased aggressiveness from the service line.

Now Sczech is adjusting to being the person analyzing the game rather than the athlete being analyzed.

There were nerves when she learned her first broadcast was officially live, but those quickly mixed with excitement.

“I’ve been looking forward to moments like these,” Sczech said.

And despite the positive response to her early work, she isn't treating landing the opportunity as the finish line.

Borrowing a phrase Nebraska sophomore Teraya Sigler used about her own development, Sczech described her mindset as “grateful but not satisfied.”

“I definitely think there’s ways that I can improve,” Sczech said. “I’m excited to be able to kind of keep improving and keep chasing the dream.”

For now, Sczech doesn't have to choose between her two careers.

She's still playing volleyball professionally — and now she's talking about it professionally, too.
