For Korben, the start of every school year feels like coming home. It’s not only the familiar sights as campus comes back to life — students throwing frisbees, lounging in hammocks or reading on the steps of the Nebraska Union — but the feeling he gets from all of it: belonging.

“It’s not just a beautiful campus — it’s a genuinely warm and inviting one. That whimsy and wonder of being on campus has never gone away for me, and I love that we all get to come back and share it together.”

Looking back, Korben gives a lot of credit to Big Red Welcome events for helping him start building those connections as a first-year student.

“During Big Red Welcome, I went to my first block parties at Schramm and the University Suites and that’s where I made my first friends. I’d been an introvert my whole life, but being on campus and going to all these events allowed me to put myself out there more. It’s made me into the more confident person I am today.”
