Congratulations to S. Capers “Cape” Zemp, IV ’90, recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award!
A Hampton Roads native and lifelong public servant, Cape Zemp has dedicated more than 32 years to serving the nation through military and government leadership. He currently serves as a senior consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense, supporting partner nations around the world, following his service as a senior leader with the Defense Health Agency.
A 1990 Christopher Newport University graduate and commissioned U.S. Army Armor officer through CNU’s ROTC program, Cape served 29 years in the U.S. Army, culminating as Chief of Staff of the Army’s Human Resources Command. Throughout his distinguished military career, he held leadership roles across the globe, including serving as garrison commander of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, U.S. National Military Representative to NATO, Army Staff leadership, and multiple assignments with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 3rd and 1st Armored Divisions. His service also included deployments and humanitarian missions in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm, Uphold Democracy, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn.
Cape’s commitment to leadership, service, and lifelong learning has defined his remarkable career. He holds advanced degrees in International Relations and National Resource Strategy and continues to support national security efforts through his work with the Department of Defense. Alongside his wife, Eva—a fellow Christopher Newport alumna—he remains a proud member of the CNU community, with their son, Adam, joining the alumni family as a member of the Class of 2022.
