Congratulations to June Laffey ’19, recipient of the Distinguished Young Alumni Service Award!
June Laffey serves as Chief of Staff to Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi, where she plays a key role in advancing public policy and serving communities across the Commonwealth. Prior to this role, she served for four years as Chief of Staff to then-Senator Hashmi, building a career dedicated to public service and civic engagement.
A 2019 graduate of Christopher Newport University with bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Environmental Studies, June has contributed to landmark legislation that has shaped Virginia’s future. Her work has supported historic initiatives including the abolition of the death penalty, the creation of the Virginia Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Historic Preservation Fund, enhanced protections for student-athletes during extreme heat, the codification of the right to contraception, and the establishment of the Employee Child Care Assistance Program.
Throughout her career, June has remained committed to engaging Virginians in the political process and strengthening communities through thoughtful, impactful public policy. Her leadership and dedication to public service continue to make a lasting difference across the Commonwealth.
