Congratulations to Shannon Fluharty ’16, recipient of the Distinguished Young Alumni Service Award!
Shannon Fluharty, M.S., is a Senior Managing Consultant at Ramboll whose career is defined by a commitment to environmental stewardship, responsible development, and applied research. After earning her degree in Environmental Biology from Christopher Newport University, she went on to complete a master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech, building expertise at the intersection of ecology, economics, and public policy.
Now based in Southern California, Shannon leads environmental permitting, impact assessment, and science communication efforts for major renewable energy and infrastructure projects across the United States and internationally. Her work spans utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, offshore wind, mining, natural gas, and infrastructure initiatives, helping advance energy resilience while protecting natural resources and supporting regulatory compliance.
In addition to her professional leadership, Shannon has contributed to published research on offshore wind development, ecosystem restoration, aquaculture economics, and nature-based approaches to mangrove restoration. Through her technical expertise and collaborative leadership, she continues to bridge scientific research with real-world decision-making, advancing solutions that promote both environmental protection and sustainable economic growth.
