Greg Brooks Jr.‘s story is one of the hardest to sit with in college football. He was LSU’s starting safety and team captain before undergoing surgery to remove a large brain tumor, later diagnosed as medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.

Complications from that surgery left him with paralysis and speech impairment, and by early 2025 he was still wheelchair-bound and relearning how to speak. From team captain with NFL dreams to fighting for basic recovery, that’s a reminder of how fragile everything can be in this sport.
