We’re thrilled to announce that Old Betsy, our beloved historic fire engine celebrating her 100th birthday this year, has been named the Grand Marshal for the City of Venice’s 50th Annual Holiday Parade, celebrating 100 years of the City of Venice and 250 years of America! 🥳

Old Betsy faithfully served the Venice Fire Department until 1959, when she was retired from active duty and placed in the reserve fleet. She continued to support fire suppression efforts, including the Christmas Eve fire at the Kash N’ Karry across from the Venice Theatre in 1968, and again in 1973 when both city fire engines were being serviced at the same time. 🚒🔥

Today, Old Betsy continues to serve the City in a ceremonial capacity, appearing in parades and community events throughout the year. Former City Councilman, Vice Mayor, and longtime volunteer Earl Midlam, along with his wife, Karen, have been Betsy’s dedicated caretakers, ensuring her parts continue to function and her wheels continue to shine. ❤️‍🔥

Old Betsy, together with Earl and Karen Midlam and all of her volunteers and caretakers over the years, will proudly serve as the 2026 Holiday Parade Grand Marshal!
