You can’t talk like that at a mic without the film to back it up. Luckily for NC State, quarterback CJ Bailey is ready to put the college football world on notice. Heading into his junior season, the growing pains are in the past and he has complete command of the Wolfpack offense — a level of authority built on a foundation of loyalty and shared respect.

“I knew where I wanted to be. I wanted to be with NC State,” Bailey said when asked why he turned down transfer portal offers to stay in Raleigh. “I get it from them being loyal to me first … They started it off with recruiting, and pouring everything into me.”

That mutual trust pays off directly at the line of scrimmage, where Bailey operates as a true field general. Roper has handed him total control to override calls, slide protections, and adjust to pre-snap defensive disguises on the fly. Rather than forcing a strict system onto his quarterback, Roper has opened the playbook to fit Bailey’s vision, giving him the autonomy to direct entire drives without needing additional play calls signaled in from the sideline. 

“I’m the alpha leader, I’m the voice leader now,” Bailey said
